Our Hand-Dyeing Process
At Knot & Bones, every skein of yarn goes through a careful, hands-on dyeing process in our Jacksonville studio. Once dyed, each skein is gently rinsed and soaked in lukewarm water with a nourishing wool wash, ensuring the colors are set and the yarn is soft to the touch. We then use a spin dryer to remove excess water, followed by air-drying—allowing each skein to fully develop its vibrant hues.
The Beauty of Hand-Dyed Yarn
Because each skein is dyed by hand, slight variations in color are part of what makes our yarns special. You may notice subtle differences between skeins, even within the same dye lot. These variations are normal and a beautiful part of the artisan process. We encourage you to refer to the listing photos as a guide, but remember that no two skeins are exactly alike—especially across different bases, which may vary in color saturation due to their fiber content, ply, and whether they are Superwash-treated.
If any skeins significantly differ from our standard for a colorway, we list them separately as Wild Cards at a reduced price—perfect for adventurous crafters who love a surprise.
Caring for Your Hand-Dyed Yarn
To keep your hand-dyed creations looking their best, we recommend gentle hand-washing in cool water with a mild wool wash. Lay your projects flat to dry, and enjoy the beauty and softness of your Knot & Bones yarn for years to come.
