Our formula is Sulfate-Free, containing only natural surfactants to gently cleanse and maintain your delicate wearables without stripping away the dyes or natural oils in the fibers. All of the scents we offer are skin-safe custom blends that we have personally crafted, you will not find them anywhere else! Using a Delicate Wash can help to extend the life of your hand dyed heirlooms, keeping them soft and vibrant for longer.
Our delicate wash is mixed up in small batches, and our scents change regularly! So if there is a scent you love, stock up! There's no guarantee we will carry the scent forever!

🫧 How to Use
- Add up to 1 teaspoon of delicate wash for every gallon of cool water—no need to be exact, just don’t go overboard.
- Make sure your item has plenty of room to swish around and soak up the good stuff.
- Let it soak for 10–15 minutes. It is not recommended to allow hand dyed garments to soak for long periods of time, this can break the bond between the dye and the fiber, causing excessive dye bleeding.
- When time’s up, gently squeeze out the excess water(no twisting or wringing for wool, please!).
- If you have extra sensitive skin you can give your garment a final rinse in clean water(though this is not necessary).
If the water changes color, don’t panic—that’s just a little loose dye making a break for it. Enjoy your fresh and clean garment!

Water (Aqua) – The Foundation
Purified water acts as the base of our formula, allowing all other ingredients to blend and work effectively. It helps evenly distribute the cleanser and keeps your wash smooth and spreadable.
Decyl Glucoside – Gentle, Plant-Based Cleanser
Derived from coconut oil and sugar, this mild, biodegradable surfactant lifts away dirt and oils without stripping delicate fabrics. It’s safe for sensitive skin and ideal for eco-conscious formulations.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine – Coconut-Based Foaming Boost
Made from coconut oil, this gentle cleanser adds a light lather and enhances the effectiveness of other ingredients. It’s biodegradable and widely used in natural care products for its skin-friendly profile.
PEG-150 Distearate – For Silky Texture & Even Cleaning
This plant-derived thickener helps create a smooth, creamy wash that evenly distributes over delicate fibers. While it’s a synthetic ingredient, it’s used in small amounts and considered safe. It helps make your wash feel luxurious without compromising performance.
Citric Acid – pH Balancer & Fabric Softener Helper
Naturally derived from fermented sugar, citric acid adjusts the pH to a skin- and fabric-friendly level. It can also help soften water, boosting cleaning efficiency without harshness.
Propylene Glycol – Moisture Retainer
This humectant helps keep the formula stable and your fabrics feeling soft. Though synthetic, it’s biodegradable and widely used in food and cosmetics for its safety and effectiveness.
Diazolidinyl Urea – Keeps Things Fresh
This preservative prevents mold and bacteria in your bottle—especially important for water-based formulas that include nourishing oils like coconut and avocado. Though it’s synthetic and not biodegradable, we use it in trace amounts well within safety guidelines. Your garment stays safe—and so do you.
Disodium EDTA – Stabilizer & Hard Water Helper
This ingredient helps our wash work better by binding to hard water minerals that could interfere with cleaning. It also helps maintain product stability over time. While not readily biodegradable, it allows us to use fewer surfactants—reducing overall environmental load. We're exploring more eco-friendly alternatives as they become more effective and accessible.
Methylparaben & Propylparaben – Safe, Reliable Preservatives
Parabens get a bad rap, but they’re actually among the most studied and effective preservatives available. Used in tiny amounts, they keep your wash free from harmful microbes. Many natural preservatives don’t perform as well in water-based formulas, which is why we’ve chosen a low-risk, proven option that helps us avoid overusing harsher synthetics. Still, we’re exploring newer, greener alternatives.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera) – Nature’s Soother
Aloe Vera helps soothe and protect fabrics—especially natural fibers like wool and silk. It’s renewable, biodegradable, and known for its gentle, skin-loving properties.
Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil – Luxurious Conditioning
Sustainably sourced from Morocco, Argan Oil softens and conditions fabrics without leaving residue. It also supports local cooperatives and eco-harvesting practices.
Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil – Softening Support
Coconut oil adds gentle conditioning benefits, helping to soften and protect fibers. It’s biodegradable and widely loved in natural skincare and fabric care for its nourishing properties.
Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil – Vitamin-Rich Fiber Care
Packed with fatty acids and vitamins, avocado oil adds softness and luster to garments. It’s plant-based, biodegradable, and contributes to a nourished feel—especially on delicate items.
Sodium Chloride (Salt) – Texture Enhancer
Yes, salt! It helps thicken the formula naturally and balances viscosity. Completely natural and biodegradable, it supports an even, easy-to-use product experience.
Fragrance (Parfum) – Light, Clean Scent
Our fragrances are phthalate-free and custom blended by me(Meg), so every scent option is unique to Knot & Bones. If you’re scent-sensitive, a fragrance-free version is available.
Colorant – Just a Touch of Hue
Used in extremely small amounts for visual appeal. We opt for safe, stable lake colorants to keep things as clean and earth-friendly as possible.
